Here are selections that represent some of my best work in journalism, including in digital, print, audio, and photojournalism.
RADIO/PODCAST/DIGITAL:
WBUR:
At WBUR, I produced a number of stories for the live daily news show Radio Boston. Here’s a selection:
“The fight over Lawrence Public Schools“
“How Afghan families are settling into their new lives in Massachusetts“
“Nurse Strike At Saint Vincent Hospital Gets Local Political Attention“
“Reginald Dwayne Betts is on a quest to build 1,000 micro-libraries in prisons across the U.S.“
“A new approach to Mass. and Cass from someone who’s experienced homelessness“
“An online portal to the real thoughts and feelings of Boston“
WAMU:
At WAMU, I report stories on a variety of topics, including local politics, health, education, culture, and more. For some stories, I was able to produce a full radio feature, as well as a full written article to accompany it.
Here are a few selected stories I’ve reported:
“These D.C.-area federal health care workers affected by job cuts grapple with an unexpected future”
“Mapping D.C.’s rapidly changing parkour scene”
“Speech-language pathologist shortage in schools impacts D.C.-area families“
“April McClain Delaney projected to win Maryland’s tight 6th congressional district race“
NPR
I helped produce a limited-run, investigative podcast series called “On Our Watch” from NPR and KQED. Episode by episode, the series delved into a different case of police brutality and misconduct, uncovered from recently released internal affairs records from police departments across the state of California. I helped produce the entire first season.
At NPR’s Planet Money podcast, I co-produced a number of episodes, including “Find the Helium”, about the role of helium in the U.S. economy, and the threat of the helium shortage.
Vox
At Vox, I helped produce a history documentary podcast called “Chicano Squad”. This project delved into the history of an all-Latino unit within the Houston Police Department in the 1970s, complete with all the challenges and triumphs they faced.
DIGITAL/PRINT:
While at Planet Money, I also reported and wrote a digital web piece about Sudan’s changing economy. Read here.
Marketplace
At Marketplace, beyond helping reporters produce daily news stories, I also reported and wrote digital stories for the website, including a story about how increased citizenship application fees would impact low-income immigrants in New York City.
PHOTOJOURNALISM
Mother Jones
I covered the aftermath of the 2020 Presidential Election results in one Brooklyn community via my photojournalism work.
VIDEO:
New York Latin Culture Magazine
I co-produced a video feature piece for New York Latin Culture Magazine about salsa dancing in an East Harlem community.
